How Do I Enroll in Part D?

You can enroll in Part D directly with a Medicare Part D insurance provider or through an agent that specializes in Medicare products.  You can also enroll in Medicare Part D via Medicare’s website or by calling Medicare at 1-800-MEDICARE.

Enrolling through an agent means you will have an extra resource for help when you have questions or problems with your drug plan.

You must enroll in a Medicare Part D plan in the service area where you live.

Some Medicare Advantage plans also include built-in Part D drug coverage.  It’s important to make sure you know if your Medicare Advantage Plan includes Prescription Drug coverage, because enrollment in a standalone Part D plan will disenroll you from your Medicare Advantage Plan if it includes Prescription Drug coverage (MAPD). You can only be enrolled in one Part D plan at a time. You cannot be enrolled in both Part D and Medicare Advantage (that includes Prescription Drug Coverage) at the same time.
